What’s new at ‘The South Suffolk’ on May 13th?

A revised Showground Layout allowing for more trade space, a dedicated outdoor area for those larger Food Hall exhibitors and more car parking space for our ever-increasing numbers of visitors.

This year the show has the great pleasure to be the only Agricultural Show in the Eastern Region to host the “Cavalry of Heroes”, who, to mark the 100th year anniversary of World war One, have created a special show remembering the role that the horses and soldiers played in the Great War. The show will also feature a “South Suffolk Special” Large Machinery Display (Boys with their BIG TOYS)  Along with Bryan Paterson’s Falconry and Wildlife Displays (with Meerkats) will also be there to educate and entertain you and, back by popular demand are ‘The East Anglian Terrier Club’ and ‘The Suffolk Gundog Club’. Throughout the day the show will feature a demonstration by 3 chainsaw carvers whose carvings will be auctioned off later in the day.

In addition the show had a high number of entries in its various horse and pony classes and our cattle, sheep and pig classes were also extremely well supported. Over the years the show has produced a number of National Champions.

Throughout the showground we strive to entertain all members of the family with attractions including traditional fairground rides, an Arts and Craft Marquee, a Shopping Marquee, a Food Hall, a Vintage Farm Machinery display and new this year the show will be holding a display of  “Modern Classic Tractors”. For the fourth year the “South Suffolk” is delighted to be hosting a Farriery Competition for Master and Apprentice Farriers, which in the previous 3 years has been extremely well supported by Farriers from far and wide.

In 2011 the trustees expanded the showground by approximately 15 acres to 95 acres in total, allowing mainly for more parking which we feel is required for the increasing number of visitors that we have seen over the past few years. This extra space also allowed us to reconfigure the layout of the showground and to provide a dedicated horse area with improved ground conditions and spectator safety in mind; this has gone down extremely well our visitors and competitors.

Visit the “South Suffolk” and experience a great day out for all the family at what visitors describe

as “A lovely day at a proper old style country show with that special feel to it”.
